BORDER INTEGRITY

Criminal Defence

20 Nov

The RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency collaborate to ensure Canada's borders are secure against criminal threats entering and exiting at ports of entry. With its nationwide presence, the RCMP plays a crucial role in safeguarding the border not only at official entry points but also in conducting investigations as needed afterwards.

The RCMP is on the job to keep Canada and all things Canadian safe from some serious and complicated criminal stuff. Right now, the biggest headaches at our border are national security issues (Canadians off on terrorist adventures) and those sneaky international crime gangs (folks using ports or the border itself to sneak people or naughty goods).

The RCMP collaborates closely with partners on various border initiatives, including Marine Security Enforcement Teams, Marine Security Operational Centres, Integrated Cross-Border Maritime Law Enforcement Operations (Shiprider), Integrated Border Enforcement Teams, and the Border Technology Program. These programs are crucial for enhancing border security and ensuring effective law enforcement across Canada's maritime and land borders.

As Canada's national police force, the RCMP does it all—protecting our borders in the air, on land, at sea, and even in that chilly Arctic! They're like the superheroes of the Great White North, keeping an eye out everywhere from remote icebergs to bustling airports. Because you never know when a polar bear might try to sneak onto a flight!

The Border Integrity program knows it's crucial to stay one step ahead of those crafty criminals and their future shenanigans. They've got a plan to keep an eye on things, evaluate any potential trouble, and swoop in with the cavalry when needed, all while teaming up with partners to make sure they've got the right boots on the ground where they count the most.

This strategy is based on three priorities: Intelligence, Integration and Partnerships. This strategy is like giving the RCMP superhero powers to sniff out, scare off, and stop cross-border crooks, all to keep Canadians safe and sound.

Keeping our borders intact is like having a big, sturdy lock on Canada's national security door, shielding Canadians from all sorts of sneaky bad guys. The RCMP teams up with government and law enforcement pals on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border to keep things in check.

The RCMP's Border Integrity program tackles complex border investigations by patrolling Canada's border between official entry points, collaborating with American law enforcement partners such as the United States Customs and Border Protection in joint operations, monitoring for border threats and emerging criminal trends, and actively investigating and disrupting criminal activities that pose risks to Canada and its allies.

This proactive approach helps ensure the safety and security of Canadians by preventing illegal activities from sneaking across our borders like uninvited party crashers. No one likes a surprise guest who doesn’t RSVP.

The RCMP smartly focuses its efforts on border security, making sure to put resources where they pack the biggest punch. They keep an eye on the trickiest spots between official entries, like the border in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. And at the entry points themselves, they are right there, lending a hand to our partners as they tackle the bad guys coming in and going out.

Think of the Marine Security Enforcement Teams as Canada's water guardians, cruising around in their mid-shore patrol boats to keep the eastern marine gateways safe and sound. They're like the Coast Guard's secret agents on the sea, sniffing out trouble and giving those waterborne threats a run for their money, with a little backup from the RCMP to keep things shipshape.

The Marine Security Operational Centre unites six crucial Canadian partners dedicated to safeguarding maritime security: the RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Coast Guard, Department of National Defence, Transport Canada, and Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Together, they work hand-in-hand to oversee and manage maritime security operations throughout Canada's waterways, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach to protecting our maritime interests and borders.

These groups team up to gather intel on border troublemakers and figure out who's best suited to handle the situation. You've got Marine Security Operational Centres on both coasts and even on the Great Lakes—like they're setting up guard posts for our watery frontiers. The coastal hubs buddy up with the Five Eyes pals to spot any shady ships heading our way.

Shiprider operations are like international cop partnerships on boats, where specially trained Canadian and U.S. law officers, including RCMP and Coast Guard folks, team up. They have the power to enforce laws on both sides of the border, keeping things safe without stepping on anyone's national toes.

The RCMP Border Integrity program collaborates with various domestic and international partners to uphold the security and integrity of the Canadian border.

With all the kids and families showing up for asylum, which is totally allowed in Canadian law, we need to sort out their arrivals without mixing it up with chasing smugglers, contraband, or migrants playing hide-and-seek. Canada really ought to set up two separate systems: one for welcoming and helping asylum seekers and vulnerable folks at the border, and another for dealing with those trying the stealthy approach. Let’s keep the paperwork straight and the hugs plentiful!
