Canada Announces Major Express Entry Changes

Immigration is like Canada’s secret sauce for keeping the economy strong. As job needs keep changing, our immigration system needs to stay on its toes because nobody wants a labour shortage ruining the party.

Today, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, announced the 2025 Express Entry categories, including a new focus on education to help bring in immigrants who can fill long-term job needs in the country.

The department announced that the 2025 Express Entry priority categories will receive preference for invitations to apply (ITAs) through category-based draws within the Express Entry system. The priority categories include:

1. French-language proficiency

2. Healthcare and social service occupations - such as family physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists and chiropractors

3. Trades occupations -  such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors

4. Education occupations -  such as teachers, child-care educators and instructors of persons with disabilities

Several occupations have been added to existing categories, while others have been removed, as outlined below:
