HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SERVICES CATEGORY DO YOU QUALIFY?

Immigration law

16 Apr

To qualify for the healthcare and social services category, you must have gained a minimum of six months of full-time, continuous work experience (or the equivalent part-time experience) in one eligible occupation within the past three years.

To figure out if your work experience checks all the boxes, head over to the Government of Canada website. There, you can play detective and find the NOC code and occupation title that best match your experience (view the main duties) - it's like matchmaking, but for jobs.

If you meet the criteria for a category-based draw, you have a higher chance of receiving an invitation to apply for PR through Express Entry, as you could be invited with a much lower CRS score compared to a general or CEC draw.

Candidates with CRS scores too low for general or program-specific draws might still have a better chance of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) if they work in an occupation that Canada has recognized as being in demand.

In a category-based draw, IRCC only invites candidates who fit the category criteria, so these draws are like an exclusive club—much less competitive than the wild, free-for-all of other draws!

This year, there are six Express Entry categories:

  1. French-language proficiency.

  2. Healthcare and social services

  3. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)

  4. Education

  5. Agriculture and agri-food

  6. Trade
