MANDATE LETTER BY OUR PRIME MINISTER

Canadians chose a new government to stand up for the country - and not just for photo ops but to build an economy strong enough to hold everyone up. As the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, put it, members of the 30th Ministry have a big job ahead - we are expected to tackle unprecedented challenges with laser focus, fresh thinking, and maybe just enough coffee to power through it all with purpose and punch.
Canada is confronting a series of crises. In an increasingly dangerous and divided world, growing geopolitical risks are posing a threat to our sovereignty. Canada’s longstanding weak productivity is placing strain on government finances and contributing to the rising cost of living for Canadian families.
There are the seven priorities that our Prime Minister focuses on:
Forging a Renewed Partnership with the United States: Establish a modern economic and security relationship with the U.S., while deepening cooperation with trusted trading partners and allies across the globe.
Building One Canadian Economy: Eliminate interprovincial trade barriers and accelerate nation-building projects that will connect regions and drive national transformation.
Lowering Costs for Canadians: Take decisive action to reduce everyday expenses and support Canadians in getting ahead financially.
Tackling the Housing Crisis: Make housing more affordable by harnessing public-private collaboration, modernizing the housing sector, and expanding opportunities in the skilled trades.
Defending Sovereignty and Security: Strengthen the Canadian Armed Forces, enhance border security, and support law enforcement to keep Canadians safe and uphold our sovereignty.
Attracting Global Talent Responsibly: Draw in the world’s top talent to drive economic growth, while aligning overall immigration levels with Canada’s long-term capacity and sustainability.
Making Government More Efficient: Reduce operational spending across government to empower Canadians to invest in people, innovation, and the businesses that will build the G7’s strongest economy.
Hon. Prime Minister further emphasized that Canada must move forward together, uniting around shared goals and values to build a stronger, more secure, and more prosperous nation unmatched in generations. He certainly wishes to deliver for Canadians as a team committed to real Cabinet government.
He stated that the government is committed to working hand in hand with Parliamentarians and the public service to deliver real results. We will forge genuine partnerships with provinces, territories, and Indigenous Peoples, grounded in respect and shared purpose. And we will unite labour, business, and civil society around a common mission: to build a stronger, fairer Canada - one that our children and grandchildren will be proud to inherit.
