Toronto police issue statement after officer tells residents to leave car keys near front door amid home invasions.
Is this a Certifiable? Deranged, Authentic, Unadulterated Statement?
What? YES - IT IS ABSOLUTELY A GENUINE STATEMENT
At a recent community safety town hall meeting held in Etobicoke, Toronto Police Service (TPS) Constable Marco Ricciardi addressed the issue and offered his controversial tip.
This bizarre advice has angered locals and social media users, with many blaming Justin Trudeau's administration's lenient bail and sentencing guidelines for the rise in auto theft.
A social media user wrote: 'Just leave the f**king car running at the end of your driveway. Why make them walk all the way up to the front door? Duh!'
Another user wrote: 'Let them have your car because they have guns. We knew that would happen. Next will be keep your doors unlocked and wife, girlfriend, or 10-year-old daughter ready to be gang raped at home.'
This shocking message comes as car thefts have soared by 150 percent over six years in Canada's largest city, forcing residents to hide their cars in secret locations and fortify them with round-the-clock security.
Dealing with a simple burglary can require 1000 process steps and 70 forms to be completed as a case goes through the Criminal Justice System. That can't be right.
The easy way is to hand over the key to your car………??????? Really!!!!!!!!!
Given that an estimated 90,000 cars are stolen in Toronto each year, residents have gone to considerable lengths to safeguard their automobiles. In the meantime, auto thefts are on the rise nationwide in Canada, with 50% of thefts occurring in Quebec, 48% in Ontario, 34% in Atlantic Canada, and 18% in Alberta. The annual cost to citizens is estimated to be around $1.2 billion.
"Uniting law enforcement, border services, port authorities, automakers, and insurance companies are necessary to combat auto theft."
Things aren't right. If a burglar breaks into your home and you shoot him, he can sue you. For what, restraint of trade? …. Hilarious!!!!!!!!
According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, an industry association, insurers paid out a record 1.2 billion Canadian dollars, or around $890 million, in theft claims in 2022, indicating that car thefts have reached "national crisis" levels. It's a disorienting and occasionally traumatic experience for the victims.
So, what is the government doing to resolve?
It's time to act bravely and cooperatively with the government at all levels, as well as with automakers, port authorities, and shipping firms. In order to apprehend offenders promptly and return automobiles to their owners, manufacturers must strengthen their efforts to prevent automobile theft and work with law enforcement to hunt down potential thieves."
Instead of handing over the keys on a platter to the thieves.
Police in big cities are reporting a steep rise in violence linked to auto theft. Toronto's police chief, Myron Demkiw, says the city has twice as many carjackings now compared to this time last year. This is simply psychotic………
What to do in case your car gets stolen?
You must file a police report and get in touch with your local law enforcement agency (not the emergency line). Next, you should find out if you have theft coverage for your vehicle, if you don't already. In the event that you own any of the aforementioned optional coverages, you should contact your insurance company to initiate a claim.
Some Advice to Stop Auto Theft:
After getting in and out of your car, always lock all of the doors and windows.
Never, even for a little period of time, leave your car running unattended.
After turning off the ignition, remove the keys and contents of the vehicle.
Purchase anti-theft devices:
“Organized crime is becoming more brazen, and the overseas market for stolen cars is expanding.”
“The rise over the last years has been alarming,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the gathering as it got underway. He described how Canadian vehicles are turning up in places like Ghana and Nigeria, with one particular family having their SUV stolen on three separate occasions.
There was an announcement in one of the Newspapers…….” A stolen vehicle was recovered at the corner of Linden Street and HillSide Boulevard on Thursday. The car was INTACT except for missing vinyl top, front and rear seats, air bags, dashboard, transmission engine and both license plates.
On a serious note - The government has set aside an additional $28 million to aid in the prevention of the export of stolen automobiles. Additionally, it recently committed $121 million to preventing organized crime, auto theft, and gun and gang violence in Ontario.
“I think the overall message today is that, to the criminals out there, we're going to disrupt your activities with everything we have”. And the only thing worth stealing is a kiss from a sleeping child.”
